Mr. Dendias thanked “the friends of Greece, the friends of peace, stability and security”, Senators Bob Menendez and Marco Rubio, as well as MPs Ted Deutsch (Ted). Deutch) and Gus Bilirakis.
“The adoption of this bill, following the Defense Cooperation Agreement, is another important step in the deepening of the strategic relations between Greece and the USA”, he underlined characteristically.
“Relationships that the government considers a key priority and cultivates since taking office,” he added.
As he pointed out, the new law mainly provides, inter alia, the following:
1. The amounts of the US European Incentive Program to be allocated to the maximum extent for Greece in order to cover its defense needs.
2. Financing to Greece for the supply of defense equipment.
3. Authorization of the President of the USA to accelerate the delivery of any future F-35 aircraft to Greece.
4. Funding for the provision of training for the Greek Armed Forces.
5. Establishment of an Inter-Parliamentary Group, in the context of 3 + 1, Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the USA, in order to deepen this relationship with a parliamentary arm, in which 6 senators from the USA will participate.
“I am particularly pleased that the systematic effort we have made as the Government of the Hellenic Republic and as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deepen relations with the United States is now bearing fruit and visible results,” he said.
“This law reflects the strategic importance that the United States attaches to our country. Especially in the direction of ensuring the well-being of the Greek people. At the same time, it opens the prospects for the deepening of the defense cooperation at a level that does not exist in comparison with any other country in our region “.
“Also, in this way, it is recognized once again that Greece has a say and a role in the developments concerning stability in the wider region.”
In closing, Mr. Dendias thanked those who have contributed and continue to contribute, both in Athens and in Washington, to the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Greece and the USA, and especially the US Ambassador to Athens, Geoffrey Pyatt, and Ambassador of Greece to Washington Alexandra Papadopoulou.
