Tsipras: Extraordinary tax on banks and a law for arrangements with borrowers

“Mr. Mitsotakis has injustice at the core of his policy, Justice must return everywhere” said the president of SYRIZA from Kilkis

The President of SYRIZA PS, Alexis Tsipras, has been touring Kilkis since the morning. During his tour of the central market of Kilkis, Mr. Tsipras discussed with citizens and shopkeepers about the extreme price increases and precision in energy, fuel and the supermarket, about the dramatic decrease in incomes and turnover that they bring, the inflation of private debt and large increases in loan installments under the risk of mass auctions of even the first home.

After his tour, Mr. Tsipras made the following statement to the press representatives:

“Our country has the most expensive gasoline price in the entire European Union. Our country has the most expensive electricity price charged by electricity companies throughout the European Union. Unfortunately, our country has the biggest discrepancy in the price set by the producer in the field from the price the consumer finds on the supermarket shelf. And at the same time, our country has one of the most expensive lending rates and thousands of borrowers in this crisis cannot meet their obligations.

All this is not accidental. A part of the accuracy may be so-called imported due to the high price of natural gas, but the gross profit in the country is not imported. He is a native of Mitsotakis politics.

Which in the midst of the energy crisis privatized PPC. Which in the midst of the health crisis is privatizing the NHS today. Which has left the banks and funds unchecked to threaten homes and create conditions of looting of the middle class it was supposed to protect.

In particular, with the banks, we see in crisis conditions that they have profits of over 1 billion within the year each. Precisely because lending rates are constantly increasing and deposit rates remain consistently low.

Mr. Mitsotakis is indifferent to this situation which is taking uncontrollable proportions. He can’t just talk to the bankers. The Greek taxpayer has paid the banks with gold. With successive recapitalizations but also with the deferred tax, because banks are known not to pay taxes. They can’t be making 1 billion in profit each and chasing borrowers by the throat.

Governments legislate. This is how it happened in Spain. We don’t say stupid things. With an extraordinary tax and with a legislative intervention that will force the banks into substantial arrangements with the borrowers.

But Mr. Mitsotakis has injustice at the core of his policy. And what we promise the Greek people is not that we can perform miracles, but that we will do everything so that justice finally returns to the place. Democracy and justice everywhere”.

Following his tour, Mr. Tsipras will have a meeting with farmers and breeders in Goumenissa.
