How the fact that her father was found with a suitcase full of money made it easier for the Belgian authorities to search Eva Kaili’s house and arrest her – Investigation into the father’s whereabouts
Key point for Belgian authorities’ investigations and the arrests for the highly acclaimed corruption case it seems that it was the introduction of the MEP’s father, Alexandros Kailis, who was found with a suitcase full of money. Due to Eva Kaili’s parliamentary immunity, the prosecuting authorities in Belgium could not search her home: It is typical that in order to prosecute her husband, Francesco Giorgi, they had to wait for him in the garage of the house and there arrest him when he was coming out of it.
However, the fact that the money was found in her father’s possession created the condition that the crime of corruption under investigation could be characterized as self-inflicted. Thus, they proceeded to search the couple’s apartment where they found approximately 150,000 euros – in total, together with what was found on her father, a total of 750,000 euros – and subsequently to the arraignment, summons and finally arrest of the 44-year-old MEP, who is now detained at zen gill prison, in Brussels.
In a short time it is expected that the European Parliament will officially start the process of removing Kaili from the position of vice-president, while already by the decision of the president Roberta Metsola all the responsibilities connected to her capacity, the vice-president, have been suspended.
The revelations surrounding the Qatargate scandal, however, according to international media reports, are only at the beginning. In Greece, however, the judicial authorities have already proceeded to freeze the assets of the vice-president of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, members of her family and her husband. The order was given by the head of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, an honorary deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court Charalambos Vourliotis.
Mr. Vourliotis, according to information, moved immediately after the developments in Belgium, in order to secure assets, which may come from illegal activities and are located in Greece (properties, accounts, companies, etc.).

Research into father’s whereabouts

Real estate company
A company created a month ago with the object of trading and exploiting real estate was identified by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority in the name of Eva Kaili and her husband.
The company is based in Kolonaki and Skoufa Street and has already been committed while an audit is carried out for its general activity.
The head of the Authority, the honorary deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Charalambos Vourliotis, who gave the order to freeze the MEP’s assets, acted immediately after the developments in Belgium.
The commitment order concerns Eva Kaili, her husband, her parents and her immediate relatives (siblings) while it refers to real estate, accounts, all kinds of financial products, companies and participations in them, etc.
But primarily the commitment is aimed at finding and blocking cash or expensive movable things (gifts) that can be proven to be linked to money laundering, an offense that has already been charged by the Belgian authorities and is being investigated for Eva Kaili and her husband of Italian origin .
