In Metsovo, the prime minister is likely to reach his decisions on the date of the elections – Everything points to after April
By Antonis Anzoletou
This time on the mountain, in Metsovo in particular, the prime minister will not go to think about either how to proceed with the restructuring or about the person he will propose for the presidency of the Republic. After all, Katerina Sakellaropoulou’s term ends in 2025. The exact time of the elections is the question, although developments in politics are always dynamic. Even if he decides to drag out the government term as far as possible, even he himself cannot be sure of how things will ultimately develop.
The market pass and the debate on the Budget
In the budget discussion, the “market pass” was the great proof that his continuous commitments, to complete the four-year period, are not “words of the air”. For a measure that will start to be implemented from February to July, the last thing Kyriakos Mitsotakis would do is not to see it work and be reflected in the pockets of consumers. Under normal circumstances, at least for two months one could assume that the early polls are removed. Therefore, from April onwards it would be most likely that the prime minister would press the “red button”. Pension increases from the new year and the combination of the “market pass” with the “household basket” are three measures from which the government wants to get “points” in the pre-election period. And at the same time to provide answers to the inflationary crisis and certainly to the entire opposition.
The minimum wage increase
The equation is complex, as from May 1 there will also be an increase in the minimum wage. Does this mean that the prime minister will wait another two months to bring the elections closer to July 7? It would be ideal for the country to be in a good tourist season when the polls are set up, however the second elections that will be difficult to avoid and the interval until they take place make things very difficult. There is also respect for the “people’s bathrooms”. With these data, most government officials would bet that screens will be erected in schools sometime in May. The statements of the executives of the majority, however, cloud the landscape. Giorgos Gerapetritis reassured SKAI that “we will eat the lamb in the village in peace”. It is reminded that Easter this year falls on April 16. Nikos Romanos, on the First Program of ERT, said that “from January the elections stop being premature”.
The “machines” in Piraeus, as in all parties, remain on. The compilation of the ballot papers in the blue faction is in the final stage, so that the announcements can be made at the beginning of the year and the new candidates can take the anointing and enter the election campaign vigorously.
