Deputy Minister of Health Zoi Rapti said that the government has taken measures early on – The government has not done anything for a long time while knowing the problem, said Theano Fotiou
The problem of lack of medicines exists worldwide, said Deputy Minister of Health Zoi Rapti speaking to SKAI. He underlined that the biggest problem is observed mainly in antibiotics and paracetamol.
Mrs. Rapti noted that early on the government implemented measures, on the one hand with the electronic prescription, on the other hand now that there is a shortage, it reinforces with imports the raw materials and boosts production.
In Greece, he explained, there is a wide production of generics which are safe and effective and added that the increase in production will make it possible to have coverage for missing drugs.
He emphasized that there is a full supply of medicines in the hospitals.
As for the possibility of an increase in prices, he said that there are some with a low price, for which there is difficulty to import and sell at these prices.
However, he added, the government has requested an increase in imports from the pharmaceutical companies, but he added that this is about the operation of the free market.
Also, he added, the government has asked doctors to prescribe generics and impose strict penalties on parallel exports.
For her part, the SYRIZA member of parliament, Theano Fotioublamed the government saying that the problem of drug shortages has been going on for over a year, and the government has done nothing.
The government refuses to intervene in this area, it says that the market will regulate it by itself, and we have seen how it regulated it, Ms. Fotiou said, adding that parallel exports should have been stopped many months ago.
