Mendoni to Tsipras: The return of the Marbles is a national issue that requires everyone’s involvement

by

A little earlier, in his statements, the president of SYRIZA had expressed his strong concern about the publications of the previous days that speak explicitly about borrowing or exchange and with very specific exchanges

“The government, from the beginning of its term, acted with seriousness, responsibility and efficiency, in order to realize its national goal definitive return and reunification of the Parthenon Sculpturesat the Acropolis Museum” said the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni in response to today’s statements by the leader of the Official Opposition Alexis Tsipras.

As the culture minister said, the government’s actions” resulted in UNESCO’s September 2021 decision recognizing the matter as transnational, the definitive reunification of the Fagan fragment, the strengthening of the international climate and the complete conversion of public opinion in Britain in favor of the Greek request.

“Mr. Tsipras, who for four and a half years as prime minister, did absolutely nothing to advance our national demand, the return of the Glypis to Athens, today appears to be worried. He must know that this government, as it has proven many times, knows how to negotiate and achieve its goals. This is what it does in the case of the final return of the Sculptures to Athens, based on the permanent position of our country, that is, it does not recognize the British Museum as the prefecture, possession and ownership of the Sculptures.

In such a large and national issue, we would expect everyone to be involved. Some people choose in this matter too, to proceed based on the only thing they know how to do well, their petty party calculations”
