Reaction of the president of SYRIZA to Dogiakou’s opinion on ADAE
The strong reaction of SYRIZA is caused by the opinion of the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiakos, according to which ADAE does not have the authority to inform about surveillance.
In fact, in his post on Facebook, the leader of the official opposition, Alexis Tsipras, addressing Mr. Dogiakos, calls on him to arrest him, as he “waives his parliamentary immunity” and explains:
“On December 5, 2022, I visited the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, on the occasion of the publications regarding the surveillance of the Chiefs of the Armed Forces, but also of a number of political figures by the EYP.
I expressed to him my deep concern about the attempted democratic diversion and pointed out to him that the evidence is with the providers.
I asked him to take the responsibility that belongs to him and to seek the truth by addressing the providers himself, so that no heavy shadow is left in the democratic functioning of the state.
A month later, not only has he not responded to my request, but I am surprised to see that today he is attempting in an unprecedented way to prevent the Constitutionally competent Independent Authority from carrying out its duties and seeking the truth.
The opinion of Mr. Dogiakos is a flagrant violation of the Constitution.
No law and no opinion can invalidate the Constitution and the mission of the ADAE defined there to control and ensure the privacy of communications.
The worst of all, however, is that Mr. Prosecutor does not only stand by the opinion, but also attempts to intimidate the officials of the Independent Authority, issuing threats of imprisonment to those who dare to do their duty and resist the diversion in search of the truth.
These threats are known and formulated by the perpetrators and those who fear the disclosure of the illegalities they committed, for months.
However, since Mr. Prosecutor repeats them, even pointing out that no one other than the victim has the right to seek evidence, it is obvious that these threats do not only concern ADAE executives but also me personally. Since, as you know, I have filed since December 7, 2022, a request before the Anti-Corruption Commission in order to seek evidence regarding the lifting of the privacy of certain persons with a critical role in public life.
If this action, according to the opinion of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, is prosecuted, I declare to him that I waive my parliamentary immunity and call on him to take legal action against me.
Mr. Prosecutor,
Eleftherias Square 1, it’s my office.
I am waiting for you to arrest me.
But let both you and those striking these unprecedented and blatantly unconstitutional actions know that whatever you do, you will not prevent the truth from shining, nor will you succeed in silencing democracy.
It has deep roots in this place.”
