At the Greek school of Agios Nikolaos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs – School children play Greek music, sing carols and sing while waving Greek flags
From the Greek school of Agios Nikolaos in the city of Tema, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias started his second visit to Ghana. During his visit to the Greek school, which is supported by donations from Greeks doing business in Ghana, the Foreign Minister met with Greek residents, Ghanaian businessmen and students learning the Greek language and culture.
When I come again, I would be very proud to see you playing basketball on that court, named “#Giannis #Antetokounmpo” @Giannis_An34. A name that unites Greece with Africa! (statement following my visit to St. Nicholas’ Greek School in Tema, #Ghana). pic.twitter.com/rNXGSsGEtR

In his statement, Nikos Dendias said he was moved to visit the Greek school again, after a year and two months (November 2021), and that he will never forget today’s images, while he pledged to return without the status of minister. As the festive atmosphere of the visit is captured in moments recorded in a video posted by Nikos Dendias on his personal social media account, school children play Greek music, sing carols and sing while waving Greek flags.

Also, the Foreign Minister highlighted the “very important importance” of the Agios Nikolaos school for the Greek government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. He also recognized the contribution of the “Tsakos” foundation and the Mytileneos business group to Agios Nikolaos. “It is extremely important in Africa, which is the fastest growing continent in the world, to have a good education” he pointed out.
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs announced a small donation that will allow the young people of the school to build a basketball team, asking that the stadium be named after Giannis Antetokounmpo. A name that unites Greece and Africa, as he underlined. “I would be very proud if, when I come again, I see you playing in this basketball court, the name of the court would be ‘John Antetokounmpo’,” he said.
