It seems that SYRIZA is putting a block in the government’s block in the Kasidiari party, which closed before it even opened well – well the gap in the consensus of the parties of the constitutional arc against criminal organizations or parties whose leader has been convicted of participating in a criminal organization.
The reason is not the essence of the provision, as it is a common will to block this possibility, but the wording.
Although the information states that the government’s consultations and discussions with the opposition parties had started for over a month now and initially there seemed to be common ground, the pre-announcement of the regulation by the Prime Minister and the leak of the outline in which will move, caused the reaction of Koumoundourou and the government representative to call on everyone to rise to the occasion.
“It is true that there is an attempt to come to an agreement with the opposition in which we all hope that reason and responsibility will prevail. What is absolutely obvious here?
That we have people convicted of participating in a criminal organization who are trying with another sheep to shape the conditions for the Supreme Court to declare their party a candidate.
This is what the organized state must always prevent within the framework of the Constitution” emphasized Yannis Oikonomou speaking on SKAI radio while SYRIZA had already expressed its intentions.
The original draft of the regulation provides that the Supreme Court’s party declaration department can check if a party has a straw man in a staff position and the real leadership belongs to a convicted criminal organization, in order to disqualify it from the elections.
Although SYRIZA is openly in favor of the regulation, it also considers that the government’s proposal raises questions of constitutionality and therefore intends to file its own legislation, so that it clearly concerns only neo-Nazis.
In other words, Koumoundourou counter-proposes a plan of her own that will be based on two main pillars: the legislative proposal must be in line with the Constitution and be clear for the neo-Nazis so that it does not open a back door for expanded interpretations and equating Nazism with any other political ideology .
“It must be too closed. Leave no possibility open that this arrangement could be used in the future by others who are not members of a criminal organization. Any amendment must be very carefully worded” remarked the new representative of SYRIZA, Popi Tsapanidou.
A political stance that provoked the comments of the government side, but also reflected the will to insist on seeking the maximum possible consensus for mainly symbolic reasons, as it is a regulation that does not require an increased majority but the government can pass it with the absolute majority it has.
Government sources therefore noted that “statements and moves for the sake of political impressions do not help. It is a demand of the democratic world to reach a consensus on this major issue and the government will pursue it by exhausting every possibility“.
PASOK views the government regulation with a more positive outlook, sources of which state that in principle Harilaou Trikoupi is not negative about this initiative.
However, as they underline, there must be corrections, which they have submitted, so that the regulation is in line with the Constitution and leaves no room for misunderstandings.
“Even in the most highly charged political confrontations of the 2012-2019 period, whenever Golden Dawn showed its true face inside and outside Parliament, there was a unanimous and sincere condemnation from the entire political system. I think this says a lot about the attitude in the future” commented the head of PASOK, Michalis Katrinis.
The KKE appeared directly opposite and declared that “is not going to accept regulations that proceed to dangerous generalizations, leaving room for the unacceptable theory of the two extremes that equates fascist with communist ideology and action“.
The regulation is expected to be submitted next week to the Parliament in order for it to be voted and to be valid for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
