Erdogan: Mitsotakis’ statements will not change the fate of the region

“Greece is not implementing the Treaty of Lausanne, it is arming the islands,” Erdogan repeated, while “responding” to the prime minister’s interview in Davos yesterday

As long as Greece is arming the islands, it is not implementing the Treaty of Lausanne, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, even commenting on the yesterday’s statements by the prime ministerKyriakou Mitsotakis from Davos.

According to SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis, Erdogan said: “Mitsotakis can say whatever he wants, but his statements are not enough to change the fate of the region. We find that the terms of Lausanne and what concerns the islands are not applied by the Greek officials.

There can be no militarization of the islands. But these islands are militarized.

And with the militarization of the islands they are taking steps contrary to the Treaty of Lausanne and the other treaties.

We too are taking the necessary steps, we are responding to the international times as necessary.

And they will do what they have to do.”

Erdogan also referred to the Economist’s article, which harshly criticizes him for the policies he follows in his country, while it has caused strong reactions:

“The future of Turkey is determined by the British magazine? My people decide that. And in Turkey what my people say is done. The fate of Turkey cannot be determined by the British magazine” said Erdogan.
