Strengthening the bilateral relations between Greece and India “is a priority for Greek foreign policy and for me personally”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, in his speech at the “Hellenic-Indian Friendship Event”, organized by the General Secretariat of Hellenism Abroad and of Public Diplomacy, last night, Monday, January 30.

As he noted, this event is another tangible proof of the strategic level of Greece’s relations with India.

He also emphasized that in the last two years the frequent bilateral visits and meetings, such as the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in Athens in June 2021, his visit to New Delhi in March 2022, the 8th Session of the Greece-India Joint Economic Commission and the signing of the Protocol in April 2022, are concrete steps that further promote strong ties us.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also pointed out “the innovative initiative of the women of the two peoples, who are active both in the business and, very importantly, in the cultural sector. An initiative founded by the Greek counterpart of WICCI, which will serve as a bridge for continuous interaction and ingenuity.”

He emphasized that yesterday marked the anniversary of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and referred to his statue, which he inaugurated together with the foreign minister of India, when he visited Athens in 2021.

“I think every person pays tribute to this eminent Indian political figure. It is a legacy for all of us”, concluded Mr. Dendias.
