“Citizens cannot feel safe if answers are not given on the issue of surveillance”
“Kyriakos Mitsotakis must answer what he did with the surveillance, how he did it and why he continues to do what he does without giving answers,” said SYRIZA’s press representative, Popi Tsapanidou, stressing that “the problem of wiretapping is so serious, that we cannot go to elections without answers”.
He accused the government of trying to distract from the essence of the issue, commenting: “the question is why SYRIZA-P.S. is he reacting to what is happening or why is all this happening?’ He noted that “citizens cannot feel safe like this. Because on the one hand we have monitoring and eavesdropping and on the other hand a government that instead of giving answers, throws mud”.
Speaking to “Parapolitika FM”, he emphasized that “SYRIZA-P.S. he did everything he could to let the people know and keep the issue of surveillance alive, but now is the time for the people to decide”, while leaving an asterisk for the company Majoritas which, as he said, manipulates the public with its software opinion. The representative of SYRIZA said that “we believe it and we want to be the first force from the first Sunday”, adding that “we must immediately go to the polls so that the people can speak” and that “soon we will also have announcements about our party’s candidates , as soon as the competent bodies decide”.
Regarding the possibility of post-election collaborations with PASOK-KIN.AL. and Nikos Androulakis, Mrs. Tsapandiou said that “the agenda of the alleged blackmail of the leadership of KIN.AL. the government is trying to open it in order to divert the discussion” and “reminded” that “Mr. Androulakis himself said that he was being watched with the ultimate aim of blackmail”. “I am simply asking the same questions that he raised and exactly the same risk of extortion of those who have been monitored was underlined by the head of the PEGA committee of the European Parliament, Mrs. Sophie Id Veldt, today even asking for clarification of the case before the elections,” he added.
Regarding the “Greek Mafia” case, he emphasized that “the SYRIZA government had launched a two-year investigation with legal connections from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, of which Mr. Mitsotakis was also aware at the time” and that “when the case went to the Internal Affairs of the Police they had 6-7 years to turn the informational material into investigative material. But nothing ever happened. They did everything they could to cover up the case.”
Asked about the issue of the Evros fence, Mrs. Tsapanidou underlined that “SYRIZA-P.S. priority is the security of Greece”. “About our own governance, did you see any fence being torn down?”, he asked, adding that “the problem is that what SYRIZA-PS says is not being listened to carefully.” He said that “our problem with the fence is that it is not enough” and that “a European alliance with Greece is needed”.
He pointed out that “Germany is taking the lead in the immigration-refugee discussions with Turkey” and stressed that “we must also participate there, the problem must become a Euro-Turkish one, always in the context of international law.” Regarding the “case of little Maria” in Evros, the representative of SYRIZA replied that “when the reports from Spiegel were withdrawn, they were withdrawn with the conclusion that no conclusion can be reached in the case and that there are conflicting testimonies as to whether there was a dead child” . “And it concludes”, he continued, “that the Greek government did not take the right actions to get answers from the first moment. If the government had handled it properly, we might have known.”
