A percentage of 67.6%, i.e. 379,554 voters came to the polls until 17:00 in the afternoon, during the electoral process for the selection of the new PtD in Cyprus.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer Kostas Constantinou, the corresponding percentage of the 2018 Presidential elections was 66.2%, which implies an increase in participation of the order of 1.4%.
Voters in the United Kingdom
The electoral process for the Cypriot elections continues without problems in the United Kingdom where a total of 10 polling stations have been set up for the 3,646 Cypriot citizens. This is 30% of foreign voters and concerns Cypriots who reside in the country and are registered in the Special Electoral List.
“The voter turnout as expected was reduced in the morning hours. However, after the half-hour lunch break and the completion of the Divine Liturgy in the local Greek Orthodox churches in Britain, it is noticeably higher. So far, everything is going smoothly and not the slightest problem has been observed,” the Consul General of Cyprus in London Odysseas Odysseos told APE-MBE.
UK polling stations:
Central London: 3 polling stations in the High Commission – 1461 registered voters
North London: 2 polling stations at the Cyprus Community Center – 815 registered voters
• Manchester : 1 polling station in the hall of the Holy Church of the Annunciation – 365 registered voters
• Birmingham: 1 polling station in the building of the Hellenic Cypriot Home – 311 registered voters
• Leeds: 1 polling station in the function hall of the Holy Church of the Three Hierarchs – 234 registered voters
• Bristol: 1 polling station in the event hall of the Holy Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul – 203 registered voters
• Glasgow: 1 polling station in the event hall of the Holy Church of Luke the Evangelist – 257 registered voters.
The polls opened at 10 am Greek time and will close at 6 pm.
This is the 13th election contest for the election of the President of the Republic of Cyprus. The new President will be the 8th in a row in the history of the Republic of Cyprus.
