“Ukrainians are proudly fighting for things that we take for granted,” the vice president of the European Commission responsible for the Promotion of the European Way of Life told SKAI 100.3 and Nikos Andritsos Margaritis Schinas.

Marking the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Schinas noted that Europe and the West have proven far more resilient than many expected.

Mr. Schinas underlined that Europe supports Ukraine both in terms of refugees and financially, but also with weapons, while he gave the status candidate country for accession.

The vice-president of the Commission noted – on the occasion of the Russian invasion – that the age of innocence for Europe it has passed… our neighbors are not so friendly, the supply of energy is not so cheap, and with immigration, we have seen leaders who want to exploit human suffering. However, he emphasized that Europe is now stronger and more suspicious

On the occasion of the Second European Conference on Border Management organized in our country by the Ministry of Immigration, Mr. Schinas stated that without strong European borders there cannot be a European immigration and asylum policy. He also added that strong European borders give confidence at home to keep the internal borders of the European Union open.
