SYRIZA is looking for the next steps in its relationship with Pavlos Polakis after the Chania MP’s posts which brought – once again – stormy reactions across almost the entire political spectrum.

Today at 5 the Executive Office meets in an expanded composition. At the meeting, according to information, Alexis Tsipras will propose the referral of Pavlos Polakis to the ethics committee of the party.

The Tsipras proposal is expected to be accepted and the next step is the meeting of the ethics committee to decide the penalty to be imposed on Pavlos Polakis.

According to the SYRIZA statute, there are four penalties: suspension of membership for a certain period of time, deletion, recommendation or reprimand.

Also according to the constitution, a two-thirds majority is required to accept the removal or suspension of party membership. The members of the ethics committee are 15, so 10 out of 15.

So far, however, it is assumed that Pavlos Polakis is off the ballot, but the question is what will be decided by the ethics committee, which will certainly meet within the week, maybe even tomorrow, Wednesday.

However, Koumoundourou’s reaction to the new episode starring the Cretan politician wants to send the message, both inside the party and outside the party, that Alexis Tsipras is not being blackmailed, the fight against corruption is collective and cannot be done by terms of personal crusade, as well as that autonomous politics and personal agendas do not fit, because SYRIZA operates collectively.

In any case, the SYRIZA organs will have the final say on what happens next.

It is certain that Alexis Tsipras he wants to march to the polls with intra-party calm and without interfering with the message he wants to send.
