Intervention of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the summit being held tomorrow in Brussels the Minister of Environment and Energy announced the upgrade of the electricity transmission networks Kostas Skrekas speaking today at the 4th Power & Gas Forum held in Athens.

“The European south and our country have an advantage in the production of energy from the sun. At the same time, it is the entry gate for energy from Africa. For the EU to have energy at competitive prices, Europe should support the upgrading of interconnections” , Mr. Skrekas pointed out, referring to the intervention of the prime minister.

the minister he announced also her industrial investment subsidy program announcement for the production of equipment used for the green transition (batteries, solar panels, equipment for hydrogen production and electric propulsion, etc.) so that the transition is accompanied by the maximum domestic added value.

In relation to electricity tariffs pointed out that the boost in competition and the decline in international gas prices have brought supplier prices close to the target (15-16 cents per kilowatt hour) set by the government through subsidies given in recent months.

We will judge whether we need to proceed with subsidies in April. The next winter may be difficult, so we need to be restrained and domesticated so that we have the required resources,” he added.

Mr. Skrekas also announced regulation for “energy tourism”, i.e. the movement of consumers from one supplier to another leaving debts to the previous one, without however affecting the right to change supplier.

Finally, he emphasized that in the last 4 years, the installed capacity of renewable sources has doubled, from 5 to more than 10 gigawatts, which also has effects on prices as the import of expensive natural gas for the production of electricity has been avoided. “Greece is a pioneer in the speed of licensing of RES. However, many more steps are needed in energy storage and networks in order to reach 100% green energy. The more RES increase in the energy mix, the lower the price will be,” the minister stressed.
