The road map for the sustainability and the course of implementation of the project for the new Greek-Bulgarian oil pipeline Alexandroupolis – Burgas, was the subject of the meeting held at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, in which the Minister of Energy, Kostas Skrekas and his Bulgarian counterpart participated. The establishment of the working group was foreseen in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two ministers at the Maximos Palace on February 16, 2023, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of Bulgaria, Ruben Radev.
The two ministers agreed that the pipeline is of great geostrategic importance for both countries, as it consolidates them as poles of stability and security throughout Southeast Europe.
This is a project that will contribute to Bulgaria’s independence from Russian oil, but also to the transformation of Alexandroupolis into an energy center. At the same time, the issue of setting up a special purpose company, which is going to undertake the feasibility study related to the project, was also mentioned in the meeting.
Finally, the two ministers underlined the excellent level of relations between the two countries at the energy level, especially in a period like the one we are going through with the consequences of the energy crisis having affected the citizens of both Greece and Bulgaria. After the meeting, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy made the following statement:

With a shared vision of the well-being of our citizens, we are consolidating Greece and Bulgaria as poles of stability and security throughout Southeast Europe, constantly deepening our strategic cooperation in the energy sector».
