Them Oropo prisonsplace of detention and martyrdom of hundreds of fighters during the years of the junta, was visited today by the president of PASOK-Change Movement, Nikos Androulakis.

Afterwards, the President of PASOK – Movement for Change made the following statement: “56 years have passed since the black day of the coup of the colonels. 56 years since the hospitable Junta led the Greek people into a dark era, which ended in a tragic way, with the tragedy of Cyprus.

I am here today, in Oropos, in this place of martyrdom, to honor the memory of our heroes. Those who didn’t get hypothermic. Those who stood up against the hospitable Junta. Every nation has a memory guard. That is why we have a duty to remember.

People who remember, do not allow the undermining of Democracy, human rights and the injury of the rule of law*. That is why memory is a guardian and we all have a duty to remember our heroes, such as Mikis Theodorakis, Manolis Glezos, who here in this place, in Oropos, resisted the Junta”.

The President of PASOK – Movement for Change was accompanied by Mr. Grigoris Lambrakisson of the murdered democracy fighter, who is expected to be in an honorable position on the Movement’s Statehood ballot.

Mr. Androulakis noted characteristics of Mr. Lambrakis: “Today is another anniversary. 60 years since the historic peace march of the great fighter Grigoris Lambrakis. And it is a special honor for the democratic faction, that in this crucial fight, which we will fight on May 21, Grigoris will be on our side. And I am very happy, because he is a selfless man. We share common anxieties about inequalities and the rule of law.

Thank you very much Grigoris for honoring us with your presence in this match”.
