Christos Nikopoulos was a long-time agricultural unionist with PASOK and switched to SYRIZA about ten years ago
Christos Nikopoulos resigned as a member of the Secretariat of the Prefectural Committee of Magnesia of SYRIZA, after a series of posts he made in the previous days against the complainant of rape and abuse by Alexis Georgoulis.
The Prefectural Committee of Magnesia of SYRIZA met late last night, Friday, April 21, and before announcing its decisions on the exit of Christos Nikopoulos, he resigned. But he insisted on his conspiracy theory apology, saying the timing of the case was not a coincidence and expressed his surprise that his humor was not being seen through what he wrote and posted online. Immediately after and before the decision to delete him from the party was announced to him, he resigned himself in order not to further damage the faction in the upcoming elections.
Christos Nikopoulos was for many years an agricultural trade unionist with PASOK and switched to SYRIZA about ten years ago.
As of yesterday morning, SYRIZA of Magnesia had premeditated its position after the noise that erupted over the posts of Christos Nikopoulos and had issued a relevant announcement, in which it stated:
“The position of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance is clear and unequivocal: No tolerance, no cover-up on issues of abuse and gender-based violence, no matter who they concern. We always stand with the victims, especially those women who have the courage and huge mental reserves to come out and talk about the tragedies they have suffered.
The personal views of Chr. Nikopoulou are self-evidently reprehensible and have absolutely nothing to do with the principles, values and ideals of the Left.
As SYRIZA-PS of Magnesia, we want the case to be clarified as quickly as possible and justice to be done in relation to Al. A sad case. The political exploitation of incidents of abuse and gender-based violence insults the victims and does not contribute to the effective treatment and elimination of such incidents.”
