In the final straight for the May 21 polls the country is now, with the parties completing their planning and increasing speed, in order to convince the citizens’ vote with their positions and program. An important part in shaping the climate and promoting programs and positions is usually played by the debate of political leaders. After much consultation, the party staffs reached an agreement for May 10, 21:00 in the evening.

The party staffs believe that, a few 24 hours before the truth of the ballot box, the debate it will be decisive, as it mainly concerns those who we call in the polls “undecided” and who gather a percentage capable of determining the next day and judging the outcome of the election.

After the selection of the persons for the ballots and the presentation of the programs for the governance of the country, the debate is the one that will highlight the positions of the parties, their philosophy and their position on issues concerning the whole of society.

In the 11th debate to be held in our country, the leaders of the parties will be asked to place themselves in five thematic sections. After the completion of the process, everyone will “close” with their overall, general position and message to the Greek people.

What are the five sections in which the party leaders will be placed:

1. Economy – Growth – Employment: The three “hot” subsections concerning the rich and the poor. The growth of the economy, the increase in income and purchasing power, the decrease in the cost of living and the decrease in unemployment.

2. Foreign policy – Defense: Relations mainly with Turkey and the strengthening of the deterrent power of the armed forces, is a potentially key topic of discussion, especially after the expansionist aspirations that the neighboring country has not stopped expressing.

3. State – Institutions – Transparency: The mode of operation of the State, transparency in all its aspects and the operation of the institutions for the benefit of the citizen, is what is being asked and the leaders of the parties will be positioned on how to ensure all of the above.

4. Health – Education – Social state: These are the three parameters that concern both everyday life and the future. The improvement in the provision of services in public hospitals, the schools of the future that will prepare the new generations for the challenges of the next 10 years and the social State that will respect the citizen and work in his favor, is a big bet, which Greece is called to now to win.

5. Environment – Energy: Given the climate change and the dramatic developments in energy after the war in Ukraine and the break between the West and Russia, it is a critical thematic unit with many challenges.

How will the process evolve?

– ERT journalist Giorgos Kouvaras will be the presenter

– The duration of the debate will be 3 hours and it will be shown by the six nationwide television networks.

-A total of 5 thematic sections will concern the political leaders

– In detail, the topics to be discussed will be the economy – development, foreign policy – defense, elections, state – institutions – transparency, health – education – environment.

– The political leaders will make their positions while there will be no questions and answers.

-The journalist’s question will last 30 seconds and the answer will last 1.5 minutes.

– The moderator of the debate will not have the right to submit a question, the questions will be submitted by journalists from all channels of nationwide reach.

-If the journalist comes back with a clarifying question, the politicians should answer within 45 seconds.
