Discussion of the Prime Minister with the Mayor of Trikkaia Dimitris Papastergiou on the topic “For the cities we want”, at the Tsitsani Museum.
The challenge for the development of the regions is national and local, stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Trikala, during his discussion with the Mayor of Trikala Dimitris Papastergiou on the topic “For the cities we want”, at the Tsitsani Museum.
Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that the financial tools exist and we see it in Trikala with the projects that are being carried out, but they must serve a common vision, as he pointed out.
The prime minister noted that issues that have to do with the hard core of Local Government are of great importance “because we want the projects to be implemented and I must say that here in Thessaly you show the way”. He expressed his satisfaction with the creation of the “Tsitsani museum” and said that it is one more factor that makes Trikala an important destination, to which the projects promoted by the government in the region also contribute.
Trikala has acquired a very good quality of life, and can attract digital nomads looking for quality of life, high internet speeds, good schools, hospitals, etc.
“This is how the region comes out of isolation,” said Mr. Mitsotakis. He added that the future for him is the decentralization of environmentally friendly means of energy production, and made special mention of RES. He said that Trikala offers smart mobility both with bicycles and electric mobility, while he mentioned the issues of accessibility to public buildings which – as he said – is very important for the government and is a priority, and “it is a road from the which we must not escape, and we must teach children that diversity is wealth for society”.
Mr. Mitsotakis said that in the Acropolis “we did it when we inaugurated the elevator and they accused us of destroying the Acropolis, while it was visited by people who never had the opportunity to visit it”.
He mentioned Meteora and its rapid tourist development, and said that we have to prepare for the next day and think about how we will manage the people who will visit the area which is being developed.
He referred to digital applications, saying that there was a revolution and it did not happen by accident, but the government was prepared. He added that innovation in quality-of-life applications and ideas will come decentralized and not necessarily from the center, which the center can then adopt and fund.
The prime minister also emphasized that there must be preventive projects for natural disasters and pointed out that “Ianos” cost close to 1 billion, a cost that he described as unimaginable for the duration of the phenomenon, while he said that these phenomena will now be more frequent than in the past due to climate change.
Finally, Mr. Mitsotakis, commenting on what the mayor of Trikaia said by presenting an application that shows which basketball or football courts are available so that the children can close them and not wait, said the following: “When we played basketball in America we had a rule. You win you stay, you lose you leave. You win you play. The next one comes in”.
