“I am saddened that a man with whom, even for a few months, we fought a good, common fight for our people has fallen so low.” This is the first reaction, through the RES-MPE, of Yanis Varoufakis in what he said about him and the “Dimitra” plan o Alexis Tsiprasin his cross-channel interview.

It sets, at the same time, the double electoral goal, to destabilize the government on the one hand, to put obstacles in “a government with a supposed “progressive” sign to continue the implementation of oligarchic policies”. On the other hand, G. Varoufakis closes the window of cooperation in the second ballots as well, while he accuses New Democracy, SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance and PASOK – Change Movement of having abandoned their ideologies for a long time now. Through his interview, finally, to APE-MPE, its head MeRA25-Alliance for the Rupture he summarizes the main proposals of his program for all major social issues, but also for the productive model of the next day.

The following is the full interview of the head of MeRA25-Alliance for Breakup, Yanis Varoufakis, to APE-MPE and journalist Nikos Papadimitriou:

Q.: During his cross-channel interview, a while ago, the president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance accused you that, through the “Demitra” plan, you are bringing fear back to the citizens. He did not rule out that you were in consultation with the prime minister. What do you answer, Mr. Varoufakis?

Answer: Nothing. I am saddened that a man with whom, even for a few months, we fought a good, common fight for our people has fallen so low.

Q: With what election result, in what way “can everything be different” on the evening of May 21, as is your central slogan, Mr. Varoufakis?

Answer: With what destabilizes “Mitsotakis SA” but, at the same time, prevents a government with a supposed “progressive” sign from continuing the implementation of oligarchic policies. A result that will be a springboard for the perspective that inspired the “MeRA25-Alliance for the Break”, of a new great militant Left that, soon, will claim power in order to give it to the majority. In the majority which is being plundered by the oligarchy and big capital with the help of the three memorial parties that represent ideologies (Liberalism, Social Democracy, Left) which they have long since abandoned.

Q: In your television interview, a few days ago, you stated about the cooperation scenarios that the political body you lead does not set red lines or prerequisites. Adding that only one condition you set: the pre-election convergence process. Why, then, can it not be about the second ballots?

Answer: For practical reasons. For a week after next Sunday, the political staff will be “lost” in the “three days” perch. Immediately after, the pre-election campaign will resume which, quite simply, leaves no room for sober dialogue – especially since SYRIZA and PASOK will be locked in a war of extermination. In this climate, a pre-election dialogue aimed at programmatic convergence is impossible. For this very reason, MeRA25-Alliance for Break-up called for a dialogue a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, by refusing this dialogue, the leadership of SYRIZA essentially turned its back on the possibilities of cooperation brought by the simple analogy.

Q: The “Dimitra” project gained a lot of publicity during the pre-election period. What other plans, of similar importance, have you drawn up in MeRA25 – Alliance for the Rupture?

Answer: Briefly, I mention five plans on which, in addition to “Demitra”, our government program of the first 100 Days is based:

1. The “Odysseus”, with which we will replace the “Hercules” – that is, the public red loan management company which is the only way to really protect basic housing, shops and agricultural land as it will abolish the buying and selling, between predatory funds, of the red loans that include (as collateral) main residences, shops and agricultural land.

2. The abolition of the “Energy Exchange” and its replacement, in the first phase, by a ceiling on the retail price of electricity that will not exceed by 5% the average cost of its production and distribution, while, in the second phase, we will launch the re-establishment of the Unified PPC with the big difference – from its statist past – that the administration will be appointed by, and will be accountable to, a Consultative Council consisting of draftees (in the majority) and experts and citizens appointed by the Parliament.

3. The abolition of the colonial “Super Fund” and the transfer of public property (which it currently contains), in the form of a capital base, to the new “twin” public banks – the New Development Bank and the New Agricultural Bank – which, finally, will grant with productive loans to small and medium enterprises and farmers.

4. The plan to relieve small and medium-sized enterprises from tax-inducing taxation. Specifically, regarding VAT, the rate of 24% will drop to 15%, the rate of 13% to 6%, many basic items to 0%. In addition, all prepayments of taxes for small and medium-sized enterprises will be abolished, while the tax rate for small ones will drop to 10% and for medium ones (sizes from 10 to 500 employees) to 20%. As for large companies (over 500 employees), the tax rate will rise to 30%.

5. Abolition of hired labor for all industries and collective agreements for each industry.

Q: Are “Demetra”, “Odysseus” and the other sections you suggest sufficient? What needs to be done to change the production model?

Answer: They are not enough, although they are important prerequisites for the Greek economy to become sustainable. I presented our plan for the productive restructuring and the Green Industrial Revolution of the country to TIF two years ago. It is based on the domestic production of green energy technologies in areas affected by deindustrialization (e.g. high-tech batteries in the industrial area of Patras and offshore aluminum wind turbines in Megalopolis, Volos, Ptolemaida) and, in parallel, the transformation of N. Greece (from Thessaloniki to Alexandroupolis) in a center for the production and distribution of green hydrogen (which will become the diesel of the future).

The primary sector is linked to the issue of nutritional adequacy. A plan to grow quality products with identity, increase organic farming, educate farmers, strengthen cooperative ventures that cut out middlemen and reduce production costs, link with processing, and above all, establish a rural development bank that will provide the necessary liquidity.
