“The extension of the detention of Freddy Beleris, now elected Mayor of Chimarra, offends the public’s sense of justice and the European perception of the rule of law”
The fact that Freddy Beleri is still being held in Tirana prisons offends the public’s sense of justice and the European perception of the rule of law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes in its related announcement regarding the extension of detention of the elected Mayor of Heimarra, Freddy Beleri.
“The extension of the detention of Freddy Beleris, now elected Mayor of Chimarra, offends the public’s sense of justice and the European perception of the rule of law,” he says characteristically.
It is reminded that the new mayor of Himaras Fredis Beleris and his associate Pantelis Kokavesis remain in custody as the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) met on Monday, and decided to stay in prison for both of them.
The anti-corruption prosecutor Atalanta Zekiri decided to press charges, although, as reported, there is no substantial incriminating evidence for the charges of “active corruption in the elections” against the two men.
In the meantime, on the sidelines of today’s EU Summit in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, met with his Albanian counterpart, Olta Haka, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports in a post on Twitter.
As pointed out, “during the discussion, the issue was raised regarding the elected mayor of Heimarra, Fredis Beleris” who remains in custody.
