“All progressive democrats and here in Crete, let’s see the political color that suits our island, where is the green, the green of hope, optimism, perspective, national dignity and social justice”
The Rethemnians were met at noon in the city of Rethymno by its president PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakisexplaining his program and the party’s differences with New Democracy and SYRIZA.
In his statements, Mr. Androulakis called on the citizens of Rethymno and all Greeks to embrace the party’s new effort.
“All the progressive democrats and here in Crete, let’s see the political color that suits our island, where is the green, the green of hope, optimism, perspective, national dignity and social justice,” he said.
“Mr. Mitsotakis feels that he has found a real opposition. Because I cannot otherwise analyze how it attacks PASOK, how it distorts all our political choices, which really create better tax conditions for the Greek people” noted N. Androulakis and explained: “We say a reduction of VAT on basic goods, reductions for families with children to give incentives to deal with the demographic problem and Mr. Mitsotakis did not do these things. We say a reduction of taxes through the reduction of contributions to wage labor, in order to have less black labor and better wages for the Greek children who stay at home. Mr. Mitsotakis considers this to be something wrong and blames us, because we say that it is unthinkable to give tax breaks for the 0.2% of the Greek population who have millions of euros and not to give perspective to millions of Greeks. And this is the difference, our value difference with the New Democracy».
As he pointed out, in New Democracy they do not realize that they may have received 40%, but this percentage has nothing to do with the support of society and the reduction of inequalities, since the official figures of Europe say otherwise. They say that Greece has 50 billion more debt since the era of the New Democracy of the last four years, it is 3rd from the end in terms of purchasing power of the country’s households and 2/3 of the taxes are indirect taxes VAT and special tax, which basically affect the middle class and the weaker Greeks. The trade deficit is the largest the country has had since 2010, so why did the Greek people support Mr. Mitsotakis? Because quite simply there was no serious opposition – and the serious opposition is here with PASOK, which is united, strong, as a real opponent of conservation, New Democracy and a system of power that operates in conditions of media totalitarianism”.
Thus, the president of PASOK-KINAL went on to say that media totalitarianism is “to say that we are talking about tax reduction policies, when in 70,000 euros in individual dividends, we are saying one thousandth more for a citizen on 70,000 euros. I ask, is this a tax-inducing policy, or that he got 5 billion VAT more than N estimated in 2 years, at the expense of the middle class? So we call things by their name in the interest of the middle class, the interest of the people, even if the New Democracy system wants to distort our positions. We are talking about fair development and tax justice for pensioners, abolition of the personal difference, a new EKAS for the poorest and 350,000 low pensioners and overturning the injustices of the Katrougalo laws, which concern widow’s pensions and disability pensionss”.
Mr. Androulakis also referred to the increase in public sector wages to the level of 1.2 billion euros, “so that they reach the level of inflation and not become impoverished, when -7% is the reduction of real wages in Greece. Whatever New Democracy says otherwise, this is official evidence from the OECD and the European Commission. And of course, we are talking about a competitive economy, which means, not only real estate investments, no buying out of bad loans by funds. We want development in the primary sector, development of manufacturing, with tourism, modern investments, to create jobs, to multiply exports and thus we will have a perspective and a future, and this must be the future of our country. Extroversion, competitiveness, strong exports, and not a country that will continue to have real Real Estate development at the expense of the Greek people».
He even said that PASOK will not let us “become strangers on our islands, we will not let the funds buy millions of properties from the poorest farmers and breeders. This is the patriotic movement founded by Andreas Papandreou and it is fighting vigorously with the power of all of you.” He asked that everyone fight “for three weeks and make Crete green again which is the island of struggles, of democracy, the Crete of social justice, Crete the castle of the democratic faction”.
Mr. Androulakis criticized the fact that both New Democracy and SYRIZA insist that their parties are the democratic faction, saying that “there are overwhelming value differences between PASOK and New Democracy and SYRIZA. I do not own property titles – and I say this because personally I could never three days before the elections, out of my desperation and despair like Mr. Tsipras, call the supposedly misguided gold miners to vote for a party of the Left. This is not a Democratic Party. As Mr. Mitsotakis also says that they are the political descendants of Eleftherios Venizelos and that they have in his party, Voridis and Georgiadis, Pleuris, Karatzaferis – and the day before yesterday when he made a statement of support for New Democracy, another extreme right winger, Failos Kranidiotis . This is not a Democratic Party. This is Mitsotakis’ attempt to strengthen himself in every way. So what’s the difference with us? We have unchanging ideas and values and we don’t do everything for the chair, we don’t use everything for the benefit of power».
“We will not disappoint any Greek who supported PASOK in its new course” pledged the party president.
