“We have a duty to fight inside and outside the Parliament for a modern centre-left”, said the president of PASOK
Its president called the democratic and progressive citizens to a common struggle PASOK – Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakissaying that June 25 will be the day of the rebirth of the Democratic Party, for the country to have a strong and reliable opposition and to put an end to the “toxic dipole” of New Democracy and SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, during his speech at the pre-election rally in port of Thessaloniki.
“PASOK is here united and strong. June 25 will be the day of the rebirth of the Democratic Party,” said Mr. Androulakis and continued: “Your reception sends a message of victory to all of Greece. There are only a few days left for the great victory, for the next big step. Because our country needs a strong credible opposition, to be able to adequately resist the maintenance of arrogance and the client state.
I call on every democrat, every progressive citizen, to unite our anxieties, to unite our hopes, to unite our forces”.
The president of PASOK – KINAL pledged that “the revival of the Democratic Party will make the voice of our people even stronger to fight together for social justice and national dignity” and added:
“We have a Duty to fight inside and outside Parliament for a modern centre-left that will again become the driving force to improve our political system, to make the toxicity, the division, the populism, the digital gangs set up by the New Democracy and SYRIZA in recent years at the expense of the common people, at the expense of the public interest.
I invite you to move forward together so that the New Democracy can regain its real and historical opponent, our Movement, and it can, with its political discourse, with its specific program, impose respect for the social state, for human rights, on separation of powers and sustainable development.
To join forces to make our Movement strong again against powerful interests that do not want Greece to be a normal European country. Why are they profiting at the expense of the Greek people during the years of energy use, of the financial crisis. When the income of the average family fell, they earned billions because the New Democracy is a traffic policeman of powerful interests.
We will put rules of transparency in the market, we serve the people and the country, the public interest and not the interest of the powerful.
We have a history of debt to move forward with a new political ethos in the face of meanness and cynicism. Against all those who, even in the last weeks, are ready to play divisive games with Thrace, with the tragic shipwreck, without ideology, without principles and without values. Because the compass of Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras is only power. Our flag is the principles and values of a democratic progressive movement that does not play with national issues, that does not play with human rights.
Come together to strengthen the progressive discourse and give hope to all the Greek people Because this faction historically fights not for power, but for unity, not for division, but for hope and perspective.
That is why I ask you on June 25th that we all succeed together and I am sure that PASOK will once again be the progressive protagonist of the developments.
We call on every Greek citizen to put an end to this toxic bipolarity. To support the effort that we started step by step throughout Greece. Therefore, I call on all democrats to give strength with their vote to PASOK. So it is with change so that there is, finally, a strong, reliable, effective opposition. For a strong PASOK which with its modern program is an alternative progressive proposal for governing the country because this is our ambition. To govern the country in the interest of the people and the country. We are not fighting for chairs, we are fighting for the people and the country, for an era of prosperity, dignity, hope and perspective”.
Mr. Androulakis also responded to the president of New Democracy for what he says about the possibility of a lack of government and noted: “Recently, some have been trying, like before the May 21 elections, to impose new fears about your choice. There is, he says, fear of anarchy.
With the alleged scenario for elections in August, they are trying to scare the new generation, saying vote for Mitsotakis so he doesn’t spoil your vacation. I say vote for PASOKS so that New Democracy has a real opponent. There is no fear of anarchy, there is fear of omnipotence, impunity arrogance, corruption, worthlessness. That’s why PASOK is strong so that conservation and populism have an opponent in our country”.
Regarding the issue of Thrace, Nikos Androulakis called on Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras to stop their “dangerous adventures” and attacked the president of the New Democracy for his statements and about “national exceptions”.
“It is not allowed to have a member of the Greek parliament questioning the Treaty of Lausanne, Christian or Muslim, who must speak of a Muslim and not a “Turkish minority”.
Anyone who questions the Treaty of Lausanne is working against our country,” he said and continued: “We are saying this, because we are the PASOK that in 1995 with Andreas Papandreou broke down the bars of shame. We are PASOK which with the 5 per thousand education law opened Greek universities to Greek Muslims, with the result that 20 years later the number of Greek Muslim scientists in Thrace has increased fivefold. We are the ones who faced discrimination of all kinds in our country.
It is not allowed for these subjects to play pre-election games. It is a shame that Mrs. Bakoyannis, with the experience she has, Mr. Skertsos, threaten Greek citizens with a vocabulary of the right wing of the 50s and 60s, which Andreas Papandreou put in the chronology of history
This vocabulary is far from any form of European acquisition, gentlemen of the New Democracy. And it is a shame that political opponents make mistakes when we talk about “national exceptions”. Because you are not the masters of the New Republic homeland. Homeland is all of us, all the Greek people. We unite. Homeland is all Greek women and all Greek men, beyond parties, beyond religions, beyond social classes”.
