“Unfortunately, we could not reach any conclusions due to the persistent refusal of Hungary and Poland,” the Prime Minister said and pointed out the need to guard the borders.

“Regarding the protection of the external borders, the cooperation with the countries of origin of immigration, the return of those who are not entitled to asylum to the countries of origin, there is a universal agreement of the member states”, emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“There was an agreement at the level of the Council of Ministers regarding the new Migration and Asylum Pact and it was accepted with an enhanced majority” Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized, with the exception of Hungary and Poland, however, he pointed out that in essence there will be no change in the Pact.

At the same time, he emphasized that the priority is to “crush” the traffickers’ networks “so that immigrants and refugees don’t get into boats and rickshaws.

“Far fewer boats are coming from Turkey. According to the statistics in the last 4 years much fewer people lost their lives in the Aegean because far fewer boats arrived. We must cooperate with the countries, with Libya, and discourage traffickers from putting people on the boats,” the prime minister pointed out.
