In the coming days, the details of the decision to abolish it will be announced withholding of 30% from the pension for those pensioners who are working, said Adonis Georgiades.

In his speech on the government’s policy statements, the Minister of Labor announced changes to the regulation which stipulates that pension cannot be awarded to those freelancers who have debts of more than 20,000 euros to the EFKA if they do not pay off the excess of 20,000 euros by settling the remaining debt in up to 60 installments.

“We need a solution, fair solution, for prospective pensioners with debt, and I will work on this issue,” he noted.

The minister reminded that there are thousands of self-employed people who paid insurance contributions for years but at the end of their working life they created debts.

Mr. Georgiadis called on businesses to give fair wage increases and to give workers their proportionate wages based on productivity.

Regarding the pending pensions, Adonis Georgiadis stated that they have been reduced to just 32,000.
