The certainty that the section of the E65 highway, from Lamia to Xyniada, but also from Trikala to Kalambaka, will be completed by the beginning of 2024 was given by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras who immediately after the Programmatic statements he made in the Parliament inspected the progress of the work on the E65 by traveling to a section of 18 kilometers from Lamia to Xyniada where work is progressing on many fronts but also in the section from Trikala to Kalambaka.
The Minister of Infrastructure requested and was informed not only about the progress of the projectsbut also for the anti-flooding measures that have started and which are considered necessary, while at the same time he particularly pressured the contractors to deliver the road to traffic by the end of the year.
As pointed out, there are no problems as they have been dealt with in their entirety, but he noted that with the delivery of the specific section, the traffic from Trikala to PATHE at the height of Lamia will be less than half an hour when today it is at least an hour and a half.
Mr. Staikouras asked to be informed and for the Trikala-Kalambaka section where it was underlined that this section will also be ready at the beginning of 2024, while regarding the section from Kalambaka to Egnatia, he noted that it will be developed by the end of the four-year period.
It is worth noting that Mr. Staikouras, having with him the Secretary General of the Ministry Maria – Elli Gerardi, the General Director of Transport Infrastructures, Ioannis Karnesis, and the Director of EYDE-KSESP, ‘Aki Christopoulos, asked to be informed about the individual problems that exist along the E65 so that optimal solutions are sought.
Among them is the problem from the floods of Sperchios and other smaller interventions mainly in anti-flooding.
In his statements, Christos Staikouras characterized him E65 as one of the great and emblematic projects of the countryand emphasized: “This is a project of particular national importance since it strengthens regional development and stimulates social cohesion, as he said, to continue by saying that “it was confirmed, as I also mentioned in parliament today, that the project in its entirety will be carried out and will be completed by the end of the 4th year. Probably even earlier.”
Referring to the sections that are in progress, he emphasized that “the section we are in today, the Lamia-Xyniada section, will be completed by the beginning of 2024. According to the information we have, 94% of it has been completed” he noted to conclude by saying that ” we are building a Greece that connects and unites and that does not isolate”
The Southern Section of E65 has a total length of 32.5 km.
At the present stage, the section of the Central Greece Motorway (E65) from Xyniada Motorway to Trikala Motorway, with a total length of 77.5 km, as well as 14.2 km of the southern section (Himikombos) has been handed over to traffic and is fully operational. E65 to ATH to A/K Karpenisiou).
Upon its completion, it will be connected to the operating section Xyniada – Trikala, at the Uneven Junction of Xyniada.
It is noted that the Northern section of the E65 (Trikala highway – Egnatia highway, junction 15 km west of Grevena), whose construction started in August 2021 has a total length of 70.5 km and a budget of 442.1 million euros.
It is estimated that its construction work will last a total of 36 months and will boost employment with more than 1,000 new jobs, contributing about 0.5% to the country’s GDP.
