It is a national and democratic responsibility to remove all obstacles to the vote of Greeks abroad, stressed Mr Takis Theodorikakos who is the rapporteur of the specific bill that began to be discussed today in the relevant committee of the Parliament.

“It is a national and patriotic duty – it is a democratic duty – not to put obstacles in their way. Let’s make it easier for them. No one can fear Greek citizens, no one is allowed to separate them” emphasized Mr. Theodorikakos.

The question of the vote of Greek voters abroad “transcends parties, expediencies, political rivalries”, emphasizes the Minister of the Interior Niki Kerameos, in her post on social networks, on the occasion of the start of discussion in the competent committee of the Parliament of the bill for the lifting of the restrictions on the exercise of the right to vote from abroad.

“We seek the maximum cross-party consensus. Today we have the historic opportunity to take the big leap”, adds the Minister of the Interior.

The full text of the post is as follows:

“The first piece of legislation of the new Government that comes to be processed in the Parliament is a highly symbolic move by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Government of the New Democracy.

That our compatriots who live abroad, or are abroad on election day, can finally exercise the right to vote from abroad, without restrictions.

The issue we are discussing today transcends parties, purposes, political rivalries. It is not right, left, centrist. It is national.

We seek the maximum cross-party consensus. Today we have the historic opportunity to take the big leap. To abolish all restrictions on the exercise of the right to vote of Greek citizens from abroad”.
