Issue of the demilitarization of the islands Turkey asks again. As reported by Sky’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when asked about it, replied that the issue of the islands was discussed with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while as his Foreign Minister said “he is talking and will talk about them”. He added that this issue “doesn’t just come from Greece, as you know, their friends in the White House and their lobby are constantly provoking”.

In particular, the Turkish president was asked “you said that a new era is beginning. What expectations do we have from Athens for the future? On islands that should be demilitarized anyway, this is gaining momentum as a way to go further here.?” and answered: “We discussed this clearly with Prime Minister Mitsotakis. I mean the matter of the militarization of these islands. Besides, the Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke to me with his interlocutor about the issue, he is talking and will talk about them. Of course, this issue does not only come from Greece, as you know, their friends in the White House and their lobby, are constantly provoking. As a result of this challenge, undesirable situations occurred from time to time. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hakan, is meeting his interlocutor and the relations of my advisor Tsagatai Kilic with the special representative of Mitsotakis will make this process very different. I believe we will overcome it quickly.”
