Ankara blames Washington for “various destabilizing steps taken by the US in the region recently at the expense of the Turkish Cypriot side”
Violent attack on United States unleashes it Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairsin the shadow of the incidents of the Turkish Cypriot forces against the UN forces in the dead zone in Pyla.
Ankara accuses Washington of “various destabilizing steps recently received by the USA in the region at the expense of the Turkish Cypriot side”, on the occasion of the American decision to extend the lifting of the arms embargo in Nicosia for another year.
The announcement of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in detail
“Following the decision of the United States to lift the arms embargo against the “Greek Cypriot Administration” in September 2020 and the extension of the scope of that decision to 2022, we condemn that the US has now extended the duration of this decision for one year from 1 October 2023.
We fully support the justified reaction of the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)”.
On this occasion, we would like to remind you that together with the “TRDB” we have repeatedly pointed out how the various destabilizing steps recently taken by the USA in the region at the expense of the Turkish Cypriot side undermine the neutral position on the island of Cyprus that this country maintains here and many years and are an obstacle to achieving a fair,
lasting and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem.
We once again call on the US to review these policies that endanger stability in the region.
Turkey, as a guarantor country, will always continue to ensure the existence, security and peace of Turkish Cypriots within the framework of its historical and legal responsibilities.”

Earlier, the suspension of the representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Omer Celik after the incidents in Pyla was provocative. Earlier, provocative statements were made by Akif Çagatay Kilic, a diplomatic adviser to Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who also referred to the “humanitarian purpose” of the road extension and stated that Ankara is determined to “protect the achievements of the Turkish Cypriots”.
