Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis expressed his sadness for the tragic death of 18 of our fellow citizens in the devastating fires of Evros.

As he pointed out, the country is facing many simultaneous fire fronts in different regions and all the forces are on the front line, giving the battle with self-sacrifice, during an anti-fire period in which every precedent has been surpassed.

The announcement in detail:

“We express our deepest sorrow for the death of our fellow human beings in Evros. Despite the alarm conditions and evacuation notices via 112, unfortunately their stay in the forest of Dadia proved fatal. The country is facing many simultaneous fire fronts in different regions. All forces are on the front line, fighting with self-sacrifice, during a fire season in which all precedent has been exceeded in the days when our country is at extreme risk (level 5) of fire occurrence. In battle, there is no room for sterile confrontation and partisan “activism.” The time of reckoning will come. At the initiative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, there will be a debate in Parliament at the level of party leaders. In any case, the coordinated Greek state, through the competent authorities, takes all the necessary actions to investigate the causes of the fires and examines every complaint. Self-righteousness or incitement to commit crimes will not be tolerated“.
