As he said, the evacuation plans put in place concerned 20,000 people in Rhodes, 15,000 people in Evros where one of the country’s largest hospitals in Alexandroupoli was evacuated at the same time.
He also noted that more than 150 buildings, houses and commercial roofs have been destroyed and compensations are already being paid for the cases related to the July fires, while the relevant applications of those affected in Evros are starting today.
The money will be given in less than a month.
Regarding the responsibilities of the government, in dealing with fires Mr. Marinakis argued that where they exist they will be rendered while he clarified that there is no question of changing the leadership of Civil Protection, putting an end to related scenarios. “We have an unprecedented problem and I cannot be the judge of who is to blame,” he noted and added: “there will be a reckoning and all analyzes will be acted upon.”
He also underlined that in this year’s fire fighting season, more money than ever was given to the municipalities, while new recruitments and tightening of penalties for arson are planned.
