He states that it is not enough for Mr. Varvitsiotis to withdraw.
Efi Ahtsioglou, Member of Parliament for the Western Sector of Athens of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance and candidate for the party’s president, speaks for the necessary dismissal of the Minister of Shipping Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, on the sidelines of the death of Antonis Karyotis.
“The unacceptable statements of the Minister of Shipping, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, about the death of Antonis Karyotis, offend all of us”, he emphasizes, adding that in particular they equate the perpetrators with the victim and mainly downplay the brutality of everyday life.
“Our country deserves to live differently” he emphasizes.
“With safety, rights and respect for every human life. Antonis Karyotis paid with his life for the fact that he was powerless, that in the eyes of those who pushed him into the sea and left him there he was a marginal.”
He states that it is not enough for Mr. Varvitsiotis to withdraw.
“Besides, he already rushed to defend himself”
It concludes that if the prime minister does not dismiss him immediately, he sends a message that criminal arbitrariness and inhumanity are now the law.
SYRIZA announcement
“Mr. Varvitsiotis not only did not feel the need to ask for even an apology for his inhumane statement, which caused the social outcry, but he has the audacity to ask for change as well. Shame on him”, says SYRIZA in a statement.
The official opposition party maintains that “after all this, Mr. Mitsotakis has no choice but to dismiss him from his position”, while commenting that “the longer it takes, the more he confirms that he is covering for him”.
