The action plan and the immediate actions to restore the damages caused by the bad weather “Daniel” in Thessaly and Fthiotida were presented by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikourasapproved by the Council of Ministers, which met under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In addition, Mr. Staikouras presented the following legislative initiatives:
– Contract for the assignment of the operation and maintenance of the METRO Thessaloniki network.
– Contract for the improvement of the 9th National Road (Yalova Bypass, P.E. Messinia).
– Proclamation of forced expropriation of properties for the traffic upgrade of the Internal Ring Road of Thessaloniki (Flyover).
– Incorporation of a Community Directive to promote the trans-European transport network.
In particular, during the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport presented the recording and a first assessment of damage to infrastructure projects in the affected areas after the bad weather “Daniel“.
472 autopsies have already been carried out, according to which it appears that damage was found on 70.2 km of the total 981 km of tested road network. Also, damages have been found in 79 bridges, 130 technical works, 16 points of the railway network while there are also 79 flooded schools. It is noted that in more than 40% of cases overall, the damages are particularly extensive.
In this context, it was decided that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport undertakes the restoration of damage and operation of road networks, the responsibility of the relevant Regions, the restoration of damage and operation of infrastructure of school units, the responsibility of the relevant Local Government Organizations.
Contract for the assignment of the operation and maintenance of the METRO Thessaloniki network through PPP
The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport informs the relevant Committee of the Parliament on the progress of the contract, which provides for the following:
Preparatory period (Period A’): ​​Fulfillment of obligations on both sides for the start of the commercial operation period of the main project (12-18 months).
Preparatory period (Period B’): Fulfillment of obligations on both sides for the start of operation and expansion to Kalamaria.
Commercial operation (Period A’): ​​Commercial operation and maintenance of the basic PPP project.
Commercial operation (Period B’): Commercial operation of the main project and extension to Kalamaria.
It is noted that the budget of the Agreement is in the order of 292 million euros, plus VAT, while the duration of the Agreement amounts to 12 years.
Contract for the Improvement of the 9th National Road (Gialova Bypass, Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros, PE of Messinia)
Mr. Staikouras described the project, as well as the stage of the tender process. In particular, he highlighted the improvement of a 3.5 km section of the existing 9th National Road, the construction of a new 4.2 km section for the Gialova bypass, while the project budget reaches 37.35 million euros with a construction period of 24 months
