The provision of consular services to Russian citizens in the occupied territories has already begun and is ongoing, with mobile consular units, while their final status and form are being worked out, said the official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in response to a question about Ersin Tatar’s claims and information that the matter was discussed between the Presidents of Turkey and Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin.

“In terms of status and format, all of that is being worked out. As far as consular services for Russians living in the northern part of Cyprus are concerned, the need for consular service has long since matured. I’d say she’s “overmature”. Currently, in the context of providing our citizens with the necessary range of services, a regular consular delegation was sent to the northern part of Nicosia on September 21 of this year,” said M. Zakharova.

“Two mobile transportable units, which are able to process applications for the issuance of new generation passports, have been employed to receive applications. More than 70 citizen applications were received. Fifteen passports were issued to minor citizens. A large number of applications for the acquisition of Russian citizenship by children have also been accepted,” he added. “Also, groups of consular officials visited the homes of citizens who could not move for health reasons,” M. Zakharova said in the context of the weekly briefing of Russian and international press editors.

“This work will continue. The total number of people who have already received consular services in north Nicosia or have registered for them is close to 1,000. This is the latest information. The next consular mission will take place at the end of September”, concluded the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
