THE Eurogroup of SYRIZA-PS voted in favor of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which condemns the attacks of Hamas against Israel and at the same time expresses its concern about the humanitarian situation, while maintaining its disagreements on certain aspects of the resolution and asking to be included in it ” all aspects of the current crisis and the Palestinian.”

SYRIZA-PS in its statement expresses great concern about the intensifying cycle of violence and emphasizes the imperative need for a ceasefire and a return to the diplomatic path.

“We proceeded to a majority vote considering their conviction as self-evident attacks by Hamas against civilians, maintaining our disagreement on aspects of the resolution and stressing the need to highlight other important positions from the European Parliament on the developments”, the announcement states.

The SYRIZA PS Eurogroup, according to the same text, supported a series of amendments by LEFT and other political groups, which, among other things, point out that:

– Hamas’s attack is condemnable but does not legitimize Israel’s counter-attack which causes another massacre of thousands of Palestinian civilians

– The right to self-defense must be exercised within the framework defined by International Law

– Israel is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gauze through exclusion

– The violation of international law and the long-term violation of the rights of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, give rise to new violence and undermine peace and security for all peoples in the region.

– Every diplomatic effort should be made for an immediate ceasefire or even a humanitarian cessation of hostilities, which was approved.

We express, SYRIZA emphasizes, “our strong concern about the intensifying cycle of violence in which Israel and Palestine are immersed, especially after the heinous bombing of the hospital in Gaza, with hundreds of dead and especially civilians, which according to the media, was committed by the Israeli aviation. We express our strong concern about the escalation and expansion of the conflict at the regional level, as well as the possibility of a new refugee crisis. We consider the need for an immediate ceasefire to be urgent and we actively support the struggle for peace and justice, against the creation of fait accompli by the occupation of Palestinian territories and settlements, which has been followed for the last three decades by Israel and has intensified the cycle of violence. We highlight the need to return to the diplomatic path, with the only way out being the creation of two independent states, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine. We point out the need for the European Union to abandon its awkward attitude, not to stop any financial aid to Palestine and, within the framework of strategic autonomy, to take the necessary initiatives with the aim of defending peace in the region and the well-being of the peoples”.
