The official announcement of the new parliamentary group on Monday, made up of the 11 MPs who left SYRIZA, will put her “stamp”. in a new major split in the space of the Left. It was done in two stages. First, “Umbrella” said “goodbye”, followed by “Ahtsioglu team”. The final step will take place with the establishment of the organization – party that will follow later. It will mediate, according to information, and a Congress in 2024 that will unify the movements that will join the new scheme.

For the presidium of the parliamentary group, the balance was maintained and there were no surprises. Alexis Haritsis, who had remained in the background in the succession race in September, is now in the foreground and takes over as president of the new K.O.

Efi Ahtsioglou with her interventions in the Parliament will show the special weight she has in the new scheme, however she herself had decided not to have a role during this period. Euclid Tsakalotos, as a member of the “Umbrella” and the most experienced in finance, will undertake to oppose the prime minister in critical battles. Assisted of course, where necessary, by Alexis Haritsis and Efi Ahtsioglou.

The experience of Nasos Iliopoulos in the position of SYRIZA representative was a catalyst for him to assume the position of parliamentary representative. Peti Perka has significantly raised her shares in recent times and was the second member of parliament that we convened next to the “nine” in order to form K.O. As for the name, the information insists that it will include a maximum of two to three words, with the word Left alone being certain. Definitions such as “new”, “ecological”, “modern” have fallen on the table. It remains to appoint the director of the parliamentary group and in the long run the press representative.

The “divorce” was not an easy task and no one could prejudge the developments in Koumundourou before the May elections. “Tectonic” changes that affected the entire space of the center-left.

The road to the founding of SYRIZA was long. In 1989, KKE and EAR came under the umbrella of SYANASPISMO. The project, despite the optimistic predictions for the new page that was opening in the area, did not proceed and Perissos left in 1991. There were many discussions and ferments until SYRIZA was finally formed in 2004. The calm days did not last long, as at the 6th Congress of SYANASPISMO, the renewal wing left the party with Fotis Kouvelis forming DIMAR. It was preceded in 2008 by the assumption of the presidency by Alexis Tsipras.

SYRIZA experienced the biggest split, which did not cost it electorally, in August 2015 when the Left Platform of Panagiotis Lafazanis with 25 MPs withdrew from Koumoundourou. The People’s Unity was formed which in September of the same year failed to overcome the 3% threshold and enter the Parliament.
