The SYRIZA-PS Interior Department head, Yota Poulos, issued a statement commenting on the Prime Minister’s announcement on the postal vote and pointing out that the main opposition party is waiting for her further expertise
The Prime Minister’s announcement on postal voting in the European elections is commented on by head of the Interior Department of SYRIZA-PS, Iota Poulos.
“Even with a delay, we listened with interest to the Prime Minister’s announcement to the Council of Ministers regarding the introduction of postal voting in the upcoming European elections.
Strengthening citizens’ participation in electoral processes and addressing the growing abstention are among the priorities of SYRIZA-PS and require immediate institutional interventions.
SYRIZA-PS timely highlighted the problem of the exclusion of thousands of our fellow citizens, and mainly of new seasonal workers in tourist areas, since the recent national elections and tabled a relevant Amendment. But the ND government rejected it then, without any dialogue.
Today’s announcement should not be the subject of communication exploitation. It demands answers to possible constitutional obstacles to ensure the secrecy of the vote, as well as safeguards which will protect the electoral result from possible falsification and ensure the reliability of the process.
In this direction, we await the further specification of the Prime Minister’s announcement from the political leadership of the Ministry of the Interior.”
