The minister said that the Fund will operate with income from the Superfund and will motivate investment initiatives, mainly in new technologies and green investments
The initiation of procedures for the creation of a National Investment Fund, which will operate within the framework of the Superfund, he announced the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis. In his address at the 1st Growth fund Summit of the Superfund, the minister mentioned that the National Investment Fund will operate with income from the Superfund and will motivate investment initiatives, mainly in new technologies and green investments. It will have modern management and utilize the best European practices.
This development came about after an agreement with the ESM, after the return of EYDAP and EYATH from the Superfund to the State. As the minister pointed out, there will be two main chapters in the new Fund:
1. The National Investment Fund will receive capital from the State. EYDAP and EYATH will be valued by an independent investor. 50% of the funding will go to the reduction of the public debt and the remaining 50% to the new investment fund.
2. Until the end of the first half of 2024, there will be a new legislative intervention for the further modernization of the DEKOs that are under the “umbrella” of the Superfund, towards the development of the investment initiative and commercial dynamics.
In his greeting, Mr. Hatzidakis also mentioned that the Superfund is moving into a new era. This approach cannot, said the minister, not take into account three elements:
1. Dealing with and solving any problems that arose during the 7 years since the establishment of the Superfund.
2. The utilization of its positive aspects.
3. The promotion of interventions for the modernization of the Superfund and its subsidiaries, towards the essential contribution to the important effort to strengthen the Greek economy.
The minister stated, at the same time, that he intends to further strengthen the framework of Law 4972/2022 (on corporate governance of public companies). And he added that there will be cooperation between the Superfund and the general secretariat of Public Property of the Ministry of Finance, for the benefit of taxpayers (increase in revenue) and development.
