He sends a New Year’s message to expatriate Greeks everywhere with his statement exclusively through “E.K.” the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Emphasizing that the relations of the Greek state with expatriates “is and will be its priority”, Mr. Mitsotakis refers both to the lifting of restrictions on the participation of expatriates in elections and to postal voting, but also to the ongoing National Strategy for Greek Expatriates.

The Prime Minister’s message is as follows:

“Compatriots,

Just before the coming of the new year, I am addressing you all with special emotion. The Greeks, who, although you live and create outside the borders of the country, are an integral part of it. Mother country ambassadors to the states where you are visiting. Bridges of communication with their peoples. And living cells of Hellenism, who honor its roots by projecting its values everywhere.

For all these reasons, relations with expatriates were, are and will be a priority of the State. With a more recent initiative, the removal of all obstacles to the participation of non-Greek voters in the elections. And, above all, the introduction of the Postal Vote, as early as the European elections in June. So that everyone has a voice for what is happening in the place without expense and inconvenience.

At the same time, the National Strategy for Hellenism Abroad is being developed, focusing on the Greek language, our cultural heritage and education. While with the continuous digitization of consular procedures, your own service is increasingly simplified and accelerated. Moreover, the gov.gr web portal now operates a special service for requests exclusively from Expatriates.

These are just some of the choices the government is well aware of that it owes to our Diaspora. That is why we will remain her constant supporters, honoring her invaluable contribution to the national path to progress. With these thoughts, then, I would like to express my warmest wishes for the new year. May 2024 be full of health and smiles for everyone.”
