To proceed with the legal declaration of femicide is requested by SYRIZA through a statement from his representative Doras Avgeriafter the brutal murder of the 41-year-old pregnant woman in Thessaloniki.

Mrs. Augeri’s statement in more detail:

“Why is the government not proceeding with the legal recognition of femicide? What cost does it weigh? Is there a greater cost than the loss of human life?

Georgia and the baby she was carrying were murdered. Her partner is the main suspect in the heinous crime.

For statistics, it is the first femicide recorded in 2024 in Greece. However, Georgia is not the first woman to be murdered by the hands of her husband in our country. It is the last one, until the next one is added.

This is our debt. Let’s do our best as a society and as a state to prevent the next “partner”, “man”, “husband”, from raising his hand. Not to threaten, not to hit, not to kill, not to register the next “dead number”.

Already in 2021, SYRIZA-PS had submitted an amendment for the legal recognition of femicide as a crime with sexist characteristics and motives.

The amendment was rejected and resubmitted at a time when we already had 14 femicide victims.

What cost is the government weighing and not moving forward?

Is there a greater cost than the loss of human life?

Let’s hear Georgia’s cry while it’s still warm and doesn’t have time to cool down…”.
