The president of PASOK said that Greece has a cumulative inflation in basic goods of 25-30% compared to the average of the European Union
Nikos Androulakis attributed personal responsibility to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the punctuality that plagues Greek households.
The president of PASOK-KINAL, in his televised interview on the morning show “Greece Time” of OREN, accused Mr. Mitsotakis of how “he has chosen to be the prime minister of the supermarkets and of the big – apparently – interests and not a prime minister who it serves the interests of the weakest Greeks and the middle class”.
“When we have cumulative inflation in basic goods of the order of 25-30% compared to the European Union average, something is wrong in our country. We consider demographics a major national issue and infant formula is sold by 147%-213% higher than in other European countries. Why were there no checks on the market for two and a half years? Why weren’t there fines?” added Mr. Androulakis.
The president of PASOK-KINAL clarified his party’s position on two more controversial issues.
Regarding the imminent legislative intervention of the Government for non-state-non-profit universities, Nikos Androulakis insisted that “the discussion must be opened immediately on what is the compensation for the support of public universities so that the children of the Greek people to have a perspective, because the vast majority of them will study in them, as is the case all over Europe. “We cannot be in a Greece where only the rich have quality of life and the child of the average Greek family will not be able to find a house in the center of Athens, because the rents are sky high. He will not be able to study in a quality university. A meaningful dialogue must be opened, there must be a consensus of long-term support for the welfare state for both education and health,” he stressed.
Regarding the issue of marriage of same-sex couples, Mr. Androulakis stated that for many years the position has been the institutionalization of the civil marriage of same-sex couples. “Regarding childbearing and adoption, our criterion will be absolute respect for the child’s interests and rights. We will wait to hear today’s announcements by the Prime Minister, and we will all be judged in the Parliament” underlined the president of PASOK-KINAL.
At the same time, he criticized the reactions of New Democracy MPs and ministers, saying that “Mr. Mitsotakis will not transfer his internal party problems to PASOK. They are his, let him solve them. The government legislates. We are not going to “tie the strings” of New Democracy”.
Regarding the political strategy and political goals of PASOK-KINAL, Mr. Androulakis underlined that “with the European elections as the first step, our goal is the reconstruction of the Democratic Party to lead, in the next national elections, to New Democracy having an opponent that he will defeat her. That the citizens can trust a government program with substantial and modern positions, and a faction that does not populize and has political figures of high credibility”.
“I firmly believe that if PASOK in the European elections is an official opposition with the stamp of the popular verdict, its rise will be rapid until the next national elections” he added while declaring that he will take all the initiatives needed to create the progressive force that will can face New Democracy victoriously in the next national elections. “PASOK will make an open call in social terms to all progressive forces. I strongly disagree with party bonding. PASOK is not going to become part of the problem called SYRIZA,” underlined Mr. Androulakis. And he emphasized even more clearly: “We have a party that mentions the term “radical left” in its name, its executives propose to become social democrats and its president, according to the words of his closest associate, was a candidate for minister of the New Democracy. For me, all this shows a canvas that sends a message to society: It is a one-way street, for New Democracy to have an opponent, for PASOK to be the official opposition in the European elections, and for me to be able to personally take all the initiatives to unite the progressive forces of society, to have the rebirth of the faction that will be the real opponent of the New Democracy on victorious terms. I strongly disagree with party fusions, which are ineffective. I disagree with persons who learned in their political life to follow only the chair and not to make political choices, but choices of political survival. Party cohesion and opportunism that harms the political ethos that a modern political party should have, far from us.”
Nikos Androulakis was appointed for the former executives from the center-left who support and participate in the ND government. “There is a different perception between me and the prime minister. We “build” political cadres, we build a policy with reliable persons who can govern the country competently. What did New Democracy do? Transcripts. Mr. Mitsotakis did not invest in political personnel, that’s why you see that it is an elite government, far from the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, not to mention far from the New Democracy party,” said the president of PASOK-KINAL.
Finally, the president of PASOK-KINAL commented on the disciplinary discharge of prosecutor V. Vlachos in the wiretapping case. “The current prosecutor of the EYP justifies the previous prosecutor of the EYP for monitoring me and half of the government of the New Democracy and she does not open her nose” said Mr. Androulakis regarding the decision to archive the disciplinary audit against Vassiliki Vlachos for the wiretapping scandal . “This issue cannot be closed with a cover-up, I understand what the prime minister’s anxieties are” he added, recalling the change in the composition of ADAE with the cooperation of Mr. Velopoulos’s party in order to put a brake on the independent authority’s investigation into the documentation of single predator-EYP monitoring center.
Regarding the sale of 30% of “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport and the sanctioning of the private agreement with Aegean for the purchase of the rights to acquire shares of the airline from the State for 85.4 million euros, Mr. Androulakis pointed out: We disagree with the privatization of Athens International Airport. It is one of the greatest assets of the Greek people. We say that they should stay in the current format and have financial benefits through dividends, with a strong presence. New Democracy gave 120 million to Aegean and suddenly rushes to exercise the rights of the public to get – as it claims – 85 million euros because now the value of the share is increased. But this way the Greek people will lose 35 million euros”.
