By decision of KYSEA, the new Chief of the Hellenic Police was chosen Major General, Dimitrios Mallios, who is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Governmental National Security Council met today (CYSEA) with the object of selecting a new Chief of the Greek Police and a new Chief of the Fire Department.
By decision of KYSEA, the new Chief of the Hellenic Police was chosen Major General, Dimitrios Mallios, who is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Commenting on today’s crises, the Member of Parliament and head of Citizen Protection of SYRIZA PS, Kostantinos Barkas, stated that “the Mitsotakis government is trying with communication tricks and “flashlights” to transfer its responsibilities and its inadequacy to the Greek Police, since it has left unchecked crime, lawlessness, mob hit-and-runs and fan violence.
The announcement in detail
“Today the KYSEA chose (Lieutenant General Mr. Mallios Dimitrios) as Chief of the Hellenic Police to whom we wish warm congratulations, good strength and success in his difficult task.
However, the staff state of Mr. Mitsotakis has failed to deal with crime and has created insecurity for the citizens of this country. The government’s failure in the field of security is catastrophic and is amply demonstrated by the annual, successive changes in both the Chiefs of the Greek Police and the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.
The Mitsotakis government is trying with communication tricks and “spotlights” to transfer its responsibilities and its inadequacy to the Greek Police, since it has left unchecked crime, lawlessness, mafia murderous attacks and fan violence, which result in sad losses no only citizens but also police officers.
Security is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed by a rule of law. Unfortunately, for this deficit, our country is called to account tomorrow at the European Parliament, where the lack of progress in the investigations into the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz in 2021 will be discussed, among other things.
