With his intervention in the Plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg MEP and head of PASOK’s Parliamentary Group in the European Parliament, Nikos Papandreou, asked European leaders to take immediate measures against punctuality.

Mr. Papandreou raised the issue in the debate on the conclusions of the European Council meeting of December 14 and 15, 2023 and on the preparation of the extraordinary European Council meeting of February 1, 2024.

In his speech, the MEP pointed out that the Belgian presidency must continue on the same path as the admittedly successful presidency of Pedro Sánchez. Prioritize climate change, economic recovery and enlargement.

In relation to climate change, he emphasized that the European Union must act immediately. Greece and especially Thessaly has been brutally affected in the past year. He asked for quick compensation on the one hand and preventive measures on the other.

He also stressed the need for enlargement with a direct emphasis on the Western Balkans. However, he pointed out that these countries must respect the rule of law and not have phenomena like the imprisonment of Mayor Beleris and asked for his immediate release.

Finally, Mr. Papandreou gave special emphasis to the issue of accuracy and stressed that the European leaders must set a high bar for solving it and asked that they take immediate measures to relieve the most vulnerable households. He pointed out that this is how the citizens’ relationship with the vision of Europe will flourish.
