The president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group criticizes the government both for the amendment for the national elections and for the procedure followed
The president of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group began his speech in the Parliament by criticizing the government, which he attributed to “managing to dynamize the discussion of this important bill for the postal vote”, Socrates Famous.
He then explained: “And it wasn’t just with the surprise amendment for postal voting in national elections, which was literally thrown on the table yesterday. But also with the whole process that followed before and after the submission of the bill”.
He accused the prime minister of “choosing to insult, not only her Parliament and the legislative process as well as the provisions of the Constitution, which do not simply provide, but impose consensus on these matters”.
He attributed it to Kyriakos Mitsotakis that he “did this because his only interest is in creating impressions. The management of power and party benefit, not the quality of democracy and politics.”
Continuing, he argued that “his choices discredit politics and lead to an apolitical and anti-political attitude. And then he tries to convince us that his aim with the postal vote is to reduce abstention, while his own choices further distance the citizen from politics. Even the legislative process that follows is offensive and in violation of the regulation.”
Incidentally, he referred to the marriage of same-sex couples, saying: “Besides, his indirect exhortation to the MPs of the Commonwealth to refrain from passing the bill on the right to marry if they disagree is recent. Today Mrs. Kerameos hypocritically asks us to support the strengthening of participation in the elections, at the same time that the prime minister urges even his deputies and ministers to abstain! That is where the unholy alliances with the Far Right end with the sole aim of maintaining power and the prime minister’s chair.”
