The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, in an interview he gave on Tuesday evening to ERT, emphasized, among other things, that he is particularly concerned about the issue of violence between minors because, as he pointed out, it needs very special treatment, while it is a phenomenon that is spreading far and wide quickly. As he said, a site has already begun to be created where parents and minors can turn to for complaints, complaints and a five-digit phone line, so that anyone can immediately report an incident to Minors so that there is an immediate intervention .«Just as we have the panic button in the case of domestic violence, in exactly the same way there should be an application, an application that will notify the police that something is going on somewhere. Together, of course, with the cooperation of other social organizations and other government organizations,” noted the Minister of Citizen Protection.

At the same time, Mr. Chrysochoidis also referred to the issue of petty crime, which includes hundreds of small criminal acts that occur every day. “One enters your house, basically takes his property, the other commits a burglary, the third steals your wallet, all this is a torture for the citizens every day” noted the Minister of Citizen Protection.

In addition, the minister made a special reference to the phenomenon of domestic violence, which he described as horrific while emphasizing that it has grown in recent years. “These are all social issues that I am very aware of and we have set up offices in every region of the country so that there is a point of reference for citizens to report these incidents. And we will put special emphasis on raising the awareness of the police when they receive such calls,” he said.

Regarding the issue of fan violence, Mr. Chrysochoidis underlined that “we will do our job” and continued by saying that “I promise here in front of you that I will make a great effort so that all these criminal elements are arrested and we bring them to Justice and we’re done, because it’s organized crime”, however he pointed out that everyone should do their job.

“Let’s take our children and let’s all go to the stadiums that open on February 12 and finish with all of them” said the minister and added: “This way we will also force the owners of the PAE, the managers, who have no reason to have stadiums which are burning or have no reason to have stadiums which create problems because they too receive from a good match, a cooperation”

Regarding the process of supplying individual cameras to the police officers that he had started during his previous term at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, he said: “The individual cameras of the police officers worked then. It was a small pilot program, which worked. There was some backlash. Badly in my opinion. The camera also protects the police officer, it also protects the citizen, it ensures transparency and the correct management of incidents when there are problems” and he clarified that: “At the moment, a tender is pending so that we can receive around 2,500 body cameras, that is, cameras that will be carried by police officers, both in patrol cars and in the DIAS, two-wheeled police teams and of course fixed cameras for the streets. I believe that soon these competitions will be run so that we will have cameras in the whole spectrum of the police.”

Regarding the Greek Mafia, he said that “they are some murderers, who undertake against contracts, serving some other interests, to serve very specific illegal interests.

They are criminal organizations that have infiltrated the economy, fuel, contraband cigarettes and are making a lot of money. They are nothing but common criminals and murderers. Already, the Police has a first success after many years. We will continue on this canvas.”
