“Yesterday the Holy Synod met and gave the word of the Church, the Church says that marriage is the connection of a man and a woman and within this relationship a person is born, life comes” said the representative of the Holy Synod on the show Today on SKAI Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Panteleimon regarding marriage for same-sex couples.

He said that “marriage for the Church is this great mystery that the Church keeps. We say what marriage means for the Church and what the Church accepts as marriage. Yesterday, the anxiety of all the hierarchs was expressed to protect and support the family”.

In commenting that the State is talking about civil marriage, Mr. Panteleimon replied: “The State can do whatever it wants. The Church bears witness to the word of the Gospel. We have no interference from the Church, the Church gives its word, it does not legislate, it pleads with its people, it speaks the truth. We know well what it means to support the family”.

When asked what the text that will be sent to the MPs will say, he replied that a letter will be sent. “The deputies will take the letter of the Holy Synod and from then on everyone will decide with their conscience.”

Regarding the text that will be read in the churches, he said that a theological text will be sent which will tell the truth of the Church in a more understandable way, what is marriage, what will be the problems that will arise.

When asked what these problems will be, he replied: “The mental state of the children and those who will establish this type of symbiosis will be disturbed.”
