The bill is expected to be voted on in the second ten days of February – The Prime Minister’s dialogue with Voridis who stated that he will abstain from the vote
In the final stretch for the vote in the parliament, it’s coming same-sex marriage bill with the cabinet to give the “green light” today and put it in consultation on Wednesday night.
THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis made special mention of the protection of children of same-sex parents who already exist, who should have the same rights as all other children. The prime minister also supported the decision of the Holy Synod, keeping a soft tone and considering that the different approach will not affect the relations between the church and the state.
All eyes were on him Minister of State Maki Voridis, who had from the beginning expressed his opposition to the bill.
In his position, as he mentioned in a conversation with journalists, he made it clear that he will not vote against, but will abstain to facilitate the government, a fact that was appreciated by Megaros Maximos and there is no question of him leaving the government.
He was typical the dialogue he had with the prime minister during the cabinet.
“I disagree with the bill on principle, and in my opinion, the Constitution derives a concept of the family that cannot be changed. I don’t want to create a political problem in the government, that’s why I will abstain from voting”, said Mr. Voridis during his position which was respected by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“I’m glad that disagreements are also expressed in a structured way. I will not get into the legal issues, because it is a matter of equality, inclusion and freedoms”, the Prime Minister emphasized, for his part.
Government sources note, however, that Mr. Voridis “he has already expressed this reservation before he became a minister. Choose the attitude of abstinence. So there is no question about him staying in the Council of Ministers.”
The proposal to the cabinet was made by the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, while a series of ministers supported the bill. However, it is expected to see the attitude of the deputy ministers on the day of the vote.
The bill is expected to be voted on in the second ten days of February.
