“Conventions should not limit themselves as an internal affair of party members. They must primarily reflect outside their often narrow party walls, and primarily concern society as well. Their lights must be directed at the citizens and not at the closed offices”, said Thanasis Glavinas, among others, welcoming the 4th conference of SYRIZA-PS on behalf of PASOK-Movement for Change.

Mr. Glavinas, addressing the delegates and executives of SYRIZA, pointed out that “two years ago, at your 3rd conference, we were talking about the multi-layered and complex crises with which we all faced these years and which affected our lives in a negative way . ..Two years later, the ND government continues to be possessed by neoliberal dogmatism and an unprecedentedly arrogant attitude towards society and its institutions”.

He also noted that “multi-level modernization translates as business with our friends”, as he said and described the intense social problems and major challenges that the country has.

The press representative of PASOK-KINAL emphasized that brave and clean decisions are needed, sober and long-term goals, a new relationship of trust with society and citizens.

“It is our stated goal to overturn this asymmetry and for New Democracy to emerge as an alternative pole of power with a winning dynamic, which will send New Democracy into the opposition.

In the context of this effort, we must discuss with maturity, restraint and with an eye on society.

The progressive space facing the New Democracy will not be structured by party alliances and the satisfaction of personal ambitions.

Neither progressive monopolies nor exclusivities of the truth can fit in, without selfishness and unnecessary certainties”, he underlined and emphasized: “In PASOK, during our 50-year history, we have demonstrated our sincere willingness to dialogue and understanding with neighboring political forces on the basis of political positions and principles.

We have done it many times. Respecting the history and political autonomy of each political space.

And in today’s treaty, we have stood in terms of dignity and respect in the internal procedures of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.

At PASOK, our only concern is how we will respond to society’s problems.

Our aim is to convince the society that there is an alternative and convincing answer to those who are circling the polling certainties of the suitability of one.

We seek dialogue fueled by social demands, without useless divisions and costly delusions.

The search for common understanding towards the common anxieties of society in expansive terms is a necessary step.

Cultivating a culture of political dialogue, free of stereotypes and prejudices, is also a key component.

Against populism we must put forward political responsibility, against Manichaeism, a serious, reliable and documented reason.

The voice of modern social democracy can form the basis of change, triggered by the upcoming European elections.”
